We’re never too old to enjoy a prom and honoring Elmwood’s latest Life Members at our very own prom—more officially known as The Elmwood Playhouse Life Member Dinner Dance– is a much-looked-forward-to Elmwood tradition. The big event was held Sunday evening October 19th at the elegant Town and Country event space. Delicious food, lively dance music, unique centerpieces, and great vibes were a festive backdrop for recognizing Steve Taylor and Kathy Simpson for all they do and have done for the theater. We leaned into “the prom” connection by starting off with Jason Summers, director of our upcoming production of The Prom, singing “This Night Belongs to You” with lyrics humorously rewritten to celebrate Kathy and Steve.

Kathy was introduced by fellow Life Member Nancy Logan and Steve by his wife, Kathleen Mahan, also an active Elmwood Board member and director. Their introductions were much appreciated by the honorees, who were deeply grateful for the honors. Both Steve and Kathy have contributed a huge amount of time and talent behind the scenes in many roles, both serving on the Board (Steve as President) and having been awarded the Elmwood Gold Leaf (at the same time) for their above-and-beyond theater support. Steve, an actor and singer, has also been seen on our stage, and all of us have enjoyed Kathy’s generous super super-special baked goodies. Their helping hands are always outstretched to help out in any capacity.
Another of the evening’s highlights was the awarding of unique Elmwood pins to all of Elmwood’s Life Members. They were conceived and designed by Omar Kozarsky and are a small token of gratitude for their inspiring commitment to helping Elmwood sustain its excellence.
Kudos to Evelyn Russo, Nancy Logan, Debbi Fleckenstein, Omar Kozarsky, Megan and Arthur Chill, Todd Moore, and Margaret Young for making this yet another memorable Elmwoodian Prom Night.
We are grateful to Beverly Huff for her generous donation toward dessert and to Steve Schnur for photographing the festivities and for the generous donation made by Steve and his wife Nancie. More photos will be available soon.
Congratulations and thank you to Kathy and Steve!
