Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack NY will be holding auditions for its upcoming workshop of “Pygmalion”, written by George Bernard Shaw and directed by Diana Green. “Pygmalion” is a is a lively battle of the sexes and is the source material for My Fair Lady.

AUDITIONS: Wednesday, October 3 at 7:00pm

PERFORMANCE: Monday, December 3 2018 (after the December Membership meeting)

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
This is a director workshop and will comprise the first 2 scenes of the play. Higgins is a vocal research expert. Eliza Doolittle is a street rat with a ghastly South London accent. The two meet by chance on a rainy night in London.

CAST REQUIREMENTS: (3 Males, 3 Females, 2 Ensemble)

THE DAUGHTER (F, 20s), annoyed at being caught in the rain, impatient, high-class entitled. British RP accent a plus.
THE MOTHER (F, 40-50s), problem-solver, high-class but more benevolent. Doubles with MRS. PEARCE. British RP accent a plus.
FREDDY (M, 20s), trying to be the gentleman. British RP accent a plus.
ELIZA (F, 20s), scruffy but proud. Scrappy but easily offended and loud about it. Must be able to do some credible Cockney accent.
PICKERING (M, 40-60s), elegant gentleman, nobility, knowledgeable, kind but likes a good laugh sometimes at others’ expense. British RP accent a plus.
HIGGINS (M, 40s), confirmed bachelor. Impatient, snob, very witty, lords it over everyone. British RP a must.
MRS. PEARCE (F, 40-50s), Higgins’ housekeeper, but expresses her opinion definitively. Doubles with Mother. British RP a plus.
BYSTANDER (M or F, 20s – 50s), sarcastic, low-class, outspoken. Needs a Cockney accent if possible.
2nd BYSTANDER (M or F, 20s – 50s), curious, nosy, also sarcastic. Needs a Cockney accent if possible.

Additional info: If interested in auditioning, please email Diana Gree for the sides so you can prepare. She is aware that working with accents needs time and does not expect a cold reading. Or if you have a copy of the play just look at the first 2 scenes.
