Auditions for “The Other Place”

 In News

The Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack NY will be holding auditions for its upcoming production of “The Other Place”, written by Sharr White and directed by Michael Edan. “The Other Place” is a haunting drama right up to the last shattering scene.

AUDITIONS: Sunday April 24 at 6 pm and Monday April 25 at 7 pm

CALLBACKS: Wednesday April 27 at 7:30 pm (by invitation only)

PERFORMANCES: Friday July 15 thru Saturday August 6 (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with possible Wednesday and Thursdays)

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Juliana a successful neurologist becomes unhinged. Nothing is, at is seems… fact blurs with fiction and the past collides with the present as the truth about Juliana boils to the surface.

CAST REQUIREMENTS: (2 Males, 2 Females)
Juliana: A sharply charismatic scientist, with a stinging wit, in her early to mid-fifties. Her fierce intelligence is both her greatest asset and largest burden, having helped her carve a niche in a deeply competitive field infiltrated by brilliant minds, and yet bringing her a deep impatience and a drive not always understood by those around her.

Ian: Juliana’s husband, early to mid-fifties, an oncologist. Intelligent, patient, equally strong willed but unlike Juliana, the undercurrent of vulnerability is more easily seen.

The Woman: In her late 20’s to early 30’s. The Woman portrays: Dr. Cindy Teller, a neurobiologist; Laurel, Juliana and Ian’s daughter, and a Woman.

The Man: In his late thirties. The Man portrays Richard Sillner, and Bobby, a nurse.

Actors will be reading sides from the script, and thus should be familiar with the play. Women auditioning for Juliana should know that it is a very demanding role with long sections of monologue [lecture] to the audience. Actors are requested to bring to audition a photo and any known definite conflicts for rehearsals from May 9th – July 15th, including vacation.

Rehearsals begin second week of May
