Auditions for “La Cage aux Folles”
The Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack NY will be holding auditions for its upcoming production of “LA CAGE AUX FOLLES“, written by Harvey Fierstein with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and directed by Alan Demovsky. “LA CAGE AUX FOLLES” is a warm and charming musical show about being true to who you are but above all love.
AUDITIONS: Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 7:30pm and Wednesday February 22, 2017 at 7:30pm
CALLBACKS: Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 7:30pm (by invitation only)
PERFORMANCES: Friday, May 12, 2017 thru Saturday, June 10, 2017 (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with possible Wednesday and Thursdays)
SHOW DESCRIPTION:
1970’s south of France where Zaza the queen of drag teaches us what family values are really about!
There are 3 nights of auditions the first 2 are general auditions and the third night is invited call back. THE FIRST TWO NIGHTS WILL BE SINGING AND DANCING AUDITIONS. PLEASE BRING IN SHEET MUSIC AND PREPARE TO SING IN YOUR KEY.PRINCIPAL CHARACTERS
CAST REQUIREMENTS: (6 males, 3 females 6 ensemble dancer/singers (combo of 2 female and 4 males))
ALBIN/ZAZA A performer of star quality; mature; great powerhouse of a Broadway voice; fine comic actor
GEORGES a star; mature and attractive; good singer; energetic, loving and caring; must move well
JEAN-MICHEL must appear to be 20 years old; handsome, masculine, well mannered, educated; desperately in love with his fiancee, Anne; lyric baritone who acts and moves well.
JACOB male butler/maid in his early 20’s; comedian who sings and moves well
ANNE 18-21; Jean-Michel’s fiancee; lovely to look at; spunky; a superb dancer who acts well.
DINDON Anne’s father; right wing radical politician; politician; pompous; quirky; must sing, move well and be a fine comedian
MARIE DINDON Anne’s mother; 48-52, shy, retiring, sexually repressed and sex starved; good singer and actress who moves well; MUST LOOK GREAT IN A LEOTARD FOR THE FINALE
JACQUELINE mature, female friend of Georges and Albin; owns a chic restaurant; attractive, charming; very theatrical;
RENAUD mature, male friend of Georges and Albin; owns a small cafe
FRANCES male stage manager in George’s club; strong actor/ dancer
THE CAGELLES:
All must be strong trained dancers who can sing! Looking for 4 males and 2 females. Also looking for one or two who are acrobats. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE FORMAL TAP TRAINING PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS DISCOURAGE YOU FROM AUDITIONING.
