Award winning play “Addicted” presented at October Membership meeting
Rick Apicella, long-time member of Elmwood Playhouse, will be presenting his award-winning play “Addicted” at the end of Elmwood’s October membership meeting on Monday, October 3, 2022. He, along with fellow members co-director Alison Costello, and actors Jenn Bedell and Mike Hull, swept the 16th Annual 20/20 One Act Play Competition, which concluded September 18th at the Philipstown Depot Theatre in Garrison NY, winning Best Play, Best Direction, Best Actress, and Best Actor.
“Addicted” is a powerhouse 17-minute play about a man trying to end his love affair with the bottle. As a staff member of Liberty Ranch Rehabilitation Center aptly commented, “The worst part about anything that’s self-destructive is that it’s so intimate. You become so close with your addictions that leaving them behind is like killing the part of yourself that taught you how to survive.” That intimacy is potently expressed in Apicella’s play that made a strong impact on the audiences at the 20/20 festival, creating quite a buzz as well as winning the awards.
This is Elmwood’s second live workshop since the pandemic, and unfortunately will not be live streamed for members attending the meeting via zoom. Those attending just for the workshop should arrive at 8:30 pm. The theater is located at 10 Park Street, Nyack, NY. Mask protocol is still in effect for our patrons’ safety. We look forward to you joining us for this moving and thought-provoking show with a cast of all Elmwood members. There will be a brief talk-back with cast and directors after the presentation.
