Cabaret Auditions At Bergen County Players

CABARET at BCP
Our version takes place in The Weimar Republic – Germany in 1929-30 BERLIN approximately 4 years before Adolph Hitler comes to power. Our script is based on the re-written version from 1989.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
M. C. A singer who can put over a song, a dancer who can dazzle and an actor who can charm and frighten us all at once.. There is no age to this character.
SALLY BOWLES A free spirited woman who is third rate singing performer in the Cabaret not older than 35.
CLIFF A young bisexual man who is a writer in his 20’s who is bright and well educated and well brought up. Based on Christopher Isherwood the writer of the original texts of The Berlin Stories.
ERNST A formidable young to middle aged man who is confident and well educated. A wheeler dealer!
HERR SCHULTZ A kindly older Jewish man in his 60’s who owns a fruit store
FRAULEIN SCHNEIDER An older gentile woman who in the landlady of the house where some of the characters live. She is strong but kindly but no one’s fool. Middle aged or older.
FRAULEIN KOST A prostitute NOT with a heart of gold. Age range is open however should not have an appearance of a spring chicken. ( WOULD BE TERRIFIC IS SHE COULD PLAY THE ACCORDION!!)
MAX Owner of the Kit Kat Club. Strong nasty . One dimensional cruel human being

The following is the listing of the CABARET boys and girls. PLAYING A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT IS A PLUS!!! But not necessarily required
BOYS
BOBBY AND VICTOR Agile dancers age range under 40. They are probably a couple
HANS Also a strong dancer but a little more S&M looking
HERMAN Brutish looking but also dancer
GIRLS
ROSIE – LULU – FRENCHIE – TEXAS – FRITZIE – HELGA
All ages shapes and sizes. Strong singers and dancers
SAILORS 1 and 2 “guests” of Fraulein Kost’s – customers Strong looking should sing and move well.
GERMAN OFFICER AND TRAIN CONDUCTOR Men who might double from above
A YOUNG MAN Aged from 9-13 who has a strong tenor/soprano voice. This role can be double cast.
A CHANTEUSE OF A CERTAIN AGE. This character would have been great in her youth but age and bad luck and maybe drugs have caused her downfall
ALSO CASTING AUDIENCE MEMBERS OF THE CABARET. MEN AND WOMEN All types
THE closed AUDITIONS FOR CABARET WILL BE HELD ON THE FOLLOWING NIGHTS.
MUSIC AUDITIONS (Please bring in a sing that is appropriate for the show (BUT NOT FROM THE SHOW) While it is important to be able to sing well we are concentrating on ACTORS WHO CAN SING.
