Cold Readings for HOT Summer Series
A big THANK YOU to all who participated in the first reading on July 21st of Airline Highway. We all decided it was beautiful play with very interesting characters and certainly could be considered for the Elmwood stage. Such a treat!
Our next reading, Saturday, August 4th will be SWEAT by Lynn Nottage. This play won the Pulitzer prize in 2017 and takes place in Reading, Pennsylvania in 2001 and in 2008. It tells the “story of a group of friends who have spent their lives sharing drinks, secrets and laughs while working together on the line of a factory floor. But when layoffs and picket lines begin to chip away at their trust, the friends find themselves pitted against each other in the hard fight to stay afloat.”
The cast for the reading is newcomers Tyler Rubin and Carl Lipscombe, Board President Steve Taylor with Phil Hannah, Dameon Reilly, Steve Allen, Wendy Portney, Pauline Quinones, Tiffany M. Card and stage directions, Beverly Huff.
Our third and final reading of the summer series, Saturday, August 18th is “In The Next Room (or the Vibrator Play,) by Sarah Ruhl. Nominated for three TONY awards, “It concerns the early history of the vibrator, when doctors used it as a clinical device to bring women to orgasm as treatment for “hysteria.”
The cast for the reading is Michael Edan, Tiffany M. Card, John C. Anderson, newcomer Nancy Doherty, Kenneth Hatlee, Jenn Vogel and one role TBD.
Both readings are free and open to the public and start at 11:00 AM in the Tarson Studio.
