As a stage director and acting teacher, Kathleen Mahan is immersed in the theater world every day; She’s an artist-in-residence in the Pelham, New York school district and works for the Westchester Sandbox Theater. At Elmwood she has directed three mainstage productions, Sweat, Clybourne Park, and Significant Other. In addition she assisted on La Cage Aux Folles, Next Fall, and The Little Foxes.
A “ghostly delight” is how she describes I Hate Hamlet. “It is a tribute to actors everywhere and a celebration of the magic of the theater.” Enhancing the magic, she adds, is the “wonderfully talented cast. They are funny and charming and it has been a joy watching them bring their characters to life.” She is especially thrilled that the cast includes four actors new to Elmwood: Siobhan Noonán, Tina D’Amato, John de Guzmán, and Christian Frahme join Elmwood “veterans” Jason Summers and Alison Costello.
Now also contributing to Elmwood as a Board member, Kathleen appreciates many aspects of Elmwood. One of her favorites, she says, is being in the building on any given Saturday and seeing every space filled. “There’s a set being built on stage, a mainstage rehearsal in one studio, a workshop in the next, and the scene shop bustling with activity. Elmwood is a vital, thriving, growing theater community and I love being part of it.”
