Elmwood Alum Peggy Eisenhauer wins Drama Desk Award
Peggy Eisenhauer became a member of Elmwood as a young teen in the mid 1970’s. When she recently returned to the theater for an on stage interview she told the audience she had been “hanging around” Elmwood because a boy she was interested in was volunteering at the Playhouse. As she tells it, one day Bob Olson spotted her and said “get up to the light loft. We need someone to run a spot”. Thus began her career as a lighting designer. She designed sound for one show in 1976. Designed lights for 6 shows during the 1978 season and was a Technical Director for one show. (Information provided by historian Mike Gnazzo)
Peggy recently won, along with her mentor Jules Fisher, the Drama Desk Award for Best Lighting of a Musical. The show is ONCE ON THIS ISLAND.
Having seen it, I can attest to its merits. The entire production was wonderful! Additionally, Peggy and Jules were nominated for a TONY Award for the same category again for ONCE ON THIS ISLAND. Elmwood has so many alum to be proud of!
