Elmwood Member Honored
Elmwood member, Michael Edan, who has presented workshops of his plays over the years at Elmwood, has been selected as one of the two finalists for the 2019 Stanley Drama Award given by Wagner College. While not having won the award, being selected as a finalist is no small feat as the competition and award is nationally recognized and submissions come from around the country.
The ceremony honoring the winner of the award along with the finalists, will be on March 18th at the Players Club in NYC, which draws its membership from the international theatre community, the related fields of film, television, music, and publishing, as well as respected patrons of the arts. Michael’s play being honored is his most recent, A RED BLOOM IN WINTER, which had a reading of Act 2 at the recent Elmwood membership meeting in January.
The Stanley Drama Award has a long and distinguished history. Past winners include Terrence McNally’s “This Side of the Door” (aka “Things That Go Bump in the Night”), Lonne Elder III’s “Ceremonies in Dark Old Men,” and Jonathan Larson’s “Rent.” Among those judging for the Stanley Award have been playwrights Edward Albee and Paul Zindel, actresses Geraldine Page and Kim Stanley, and TV producer/pioneer talk-show host David Susskind.
