We know audiences have been loving Elmwood’s production of I Hate Hamlet, and reviewers agree!
Opening weekend the show was reviewed by Bruce Apar of Broadway World and Robert Jowaiszas of Rockland News.
In addition to giving kudos to each of the performers, Apar’s reveiw in Broadway World review praised the show as a “jewel of a comedy” while also noting that it had poignant moments that are “engaging and mesmerizing.” There was also well-deserved highlight on the costumes: “spot on, as ever in the masterly hands of Costume Designer Janet Fenton.”
Jowaiszas’s review in Rockland News called the production a “hilarious comedy with a ghostly dose of theatrical magic” and notes the “chemistry among the cast” as well as wonderful individual performances. Jowaiszas also notes the contributions of the behind the scenes creatives—calling attention to Deanna Koski’s lighting and the way Elmwood’s intimate space helps the audience feel immersed in Bill Mentz’s set.
Both reviewers credit Kathleen Mahan’s outstanding directorial work and understanding of the play as the key that brings it all together.
