Janet Fenton receives a Children’s Champions Award
As many of you know, Janet Fenton has created beautiful costumes for many shows at our playhouse from Harvey to Jekyll and Hyde to Rumors. But what you may not know is that she also serves the larger Rockland community in her role as Director of the Children’s Program at One to One Learning here in Nyack. One to One Learning is an organization, run by the Dominican Sisters, that specializes in teaching immigrants English and preparing them for citizenship. Janet takes care of the children while their parents go to classes.
But she doesn’t just “watch” them, she teaches them, she nurtures them and she is sensitive to the traumas many of them have endured. On Wednesday April 10th, Janet became one of Rockland County’s “Children’s Champions” and received the “It Takes A Community” award. This award is given by Child Care Resources of Rockland, Inc., and it has a long list of recipients including local politicians and school superintendents.
I think that I speak for all of us at Elmwood Playhouse when I say, “Congratulations, Janet!” for not only being part of our Elmwood family, but for sharing your talents with so many people who need you.
Thank you for being who you are.
