Reflecting on her 30th year as a Playhouse member, Margaret Young is grateful to Elmwood where she has been able to practice and expand the creativity that is the greatest part of who she is.
Margaret has shared her talents during this time in many ways: as an actress, singer, producer, backstage crew member and director, with her first directorial experience in 2013 being the musical I Love You You’re Perfect Now Change. Add to that her 10 years as coordinator of the “Sundays at Seven” program and 20 years of Board service, and one can see that she deservedly was awarded Life Membership in 2016.
Although musicals are her favorite genre, she appreciates the unique creative opportunities of The 39 Steps, a madcap parody of the well-known Alfred Hitchcock spy thriller. Innovations abound as four actors play numerous parts, encouraging spoofy physical comedy and a quirky use of props to create settings. Margaret feels “blessed with a cast of brilliant comics sharing ideas that elevate the already crazy humor in this play.” She is equally appreciative of the exceptional technical team support for the use of a turntable set and projections, which enhance the action of the show.
For Margaret, being involved with Elmwood for three decades has brought her lifelong friends, and as she says, “made her acutely aware of the long legacy she is part of, and the responsibility of offering and expanding the best that we are capable of as we move into the future.”
