Meet the Director: Claudia Stefany- Fun Home

 In News

For almost 20 years, Claudia Stefany has enriched Elmwood with the skills and expertise from her professional life as a Wardrobe Supervisor, freelance costume designer, and director. She has also shared her talents and gifts as an actor, singer and Board member. From Claudia’s perspective, “Elmwood has provided a “welcoming, safe, creative home when I needed it most. I have learned and grown so much here, not only as an artist, but as a human being.”
Claudia has directed a dozen Elmwood productions, and while her first love will always be musicals, (i.e. The Bridges of Madison County, Spring Awakening, Songs for a New World) she counts two non-musicals –The Lifespan of a Fact and Enchanted April—among her favorite directing projects. In all her work, Claudia believes in “being creatively fearless because you never know what’s going to inspire someone or lift them up when they need it the most.”
She brings that philosophy to her most recent project, Fun Home, opening at Elmwood on March 15. Commenting on the essence of the upcoming show she says, “What makes Alison Bechdel’s journey forward transformative is observing and processing the past through the sometimes poetic license of memory.”
We look forward to seeing Claudia’s latest production come to life on the Elmwood stage. Fun Home runs from March 15 through April 13.
