Reading Series Continues with a Semi-staged reading of Stupid F&*king Bird

 In News

Since Elmwood Playhouse will open its 71st season with Christopher Durang’s hilarious
Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” a modern comedy mashing up several of Chekov’s plays, what better way to continue the cold reading series than by taking an additional look at Chekhov with a special semi-staged reading of “Stupid F&*king Bird,” (SFB) by Aaron Posner, a twisted, modern re-telling of “The Seagull.”

These plays examine love, life, and art. In SFB, the character of Conrad asks, “Why do I want to change the world? BECAUSE IT NEEDS CHANGING!…”The Theatre” was something that could maybe be some tiny, tiny, tiny part of that… and it has got to find its way to be that again or it should go the way of the dodo and the bell bottom and the newspaper and just GO AWAY!”

What do you think? What is the purpose of theatre or life? Tangled love stories, a complex mother and son relationship, and darkly twisted laughs will give you just the right way to start your Saturday! This special reading will be on Elmwood’s Main Stage utilizing the set of “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.”

See this amazing cast of readers Saturday, September 15th at 11:00 AM.
