Marguerite Elizabeth “Maggie” Scott, a beloved member of the Elmwood Playhouse family and a Life Member since 1996, died on September 14, 2026, at the age of 86. Maggie devoted decades to Elmwood, contributing her time, talent and remarkable generosity to the theater and the people who made it possible. Her husband, Daniel “Danny” Scott, was also an Elmwood member. In 1993, the Rockland Council on the Arts honored Maggie for her exceptional support of the arts, and in 1996 Elmwood named her a Life Member in recognition of her extraordinary volunteer service.

Maggie’s contributions to Elmwood were extensive. She appeared onstage in four productions, including Wonderful Town, The Man Who Came to Dinner, The Curious Savage and Charlotte’s Web. Her greatest impact, however, came behind the scenes. From 1986 through 1996, she served as producer for 20 Elmwood productions, including 1776, Crimes of the Heart, Little Shop of Horrors, Cabaret, Assassins, The Sum of Us and The Lion in Winter. She also served as stage manager for Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune.

But Maggie’s legacy at Elmwood cannot be measured by credits alone. She had an extraordinary gift for bringing people together. Rehearsals and meetings often came with coffee, drinks and something homemade; large gatherings might include one of her famous meals or legendary pies, which earned her the affectionate nickname “Magpie.” Her warmth and generosity helped create the sense of community at the heart of theatre.

Maggie loved music and theater, sang in choirs and occasionally performed, but was often happiest helping others make the production happen. She lived the philosophy that she and Dan shared: Don’t postpone joy! She leaves behind a lasting legacy of productions, friendships and memories at Elmwood Playhouse. We remember her with gratitude and affection.

Maggie is survived by her husband, Daniel; her daughters, Pamela Pariseau and Julianne Klappas; her stepchildren, Steven Scott and Missy Vanderploeg; and six grandchildren. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held September 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Tampa, Florida. Her obituary can be found here. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Maggie’s memory to the International Myeloma Foundation (www.myeloma.org)
