Elaine Vogel

“dreamed a dream” of directing a production of Les Misérables, her favorite musical, at the Elmwood Playhouse. It took nearly fifteen years of wishing and waiting to get the rights, but when MTI released Les Mis to regional and community theaters this past winter, Elaine knew her dream was about to come true. And so, here it is – the first local community theatre production of this world renowned musical. Elaine brings 42 years of experience as an Elmwood member and fourteen main stage productions at Elmwood to this long-awaited endeavor. Through the years, she has directed such musicals as She Loves Me, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Jekyll & Hyde, Ain’t Misbehavin’, and Ragtime, as well as highly acclaimed productions of Painting Churches, The Road to Mecca, The Sisters Rosensweig, and The Trip to Bountiful. She wishes to express her deepest thanks to the cast and staff of this outstanding production for making her dream a reality, the Play Selection Committee and Board of Directors for granting her this opportunity, and most of all, her beloved husband of fifty years for his patience, support, and amazing contribution as co-technical director. Very special thanks to David Azarow, colleague and collaborator for more than fifteen years. “I know this one was for me!”
