Welcome to the New Elmwood Season
A Season Opening Greeting from Board Member Margaret Young
Happy New Year! Let’s be honest, this is the time of year that really feels like a new beginning. On December 31st we look back as well as looking forward, but September feels like things start moving rapidly forward after the lazy days of summer.
At Elmwood Playhouse we are looking forward to a new season, and we have been uplifted by the return of audiences to our shows since we returned to our Playhouse stage in 2021. It has been a gradual process, no doubt. But we are now seeing our treasured familiar faces appear at the front door, as well as new ones. We are so happy that we can do what we love again for all our audiences with our amazing designers, performers and crews!
The 2022 – 2023 season was our first full six show season since 2018 – 2019! In our new season, we are experimenting with a new format of presenting five shows from September through June, with the usual July to August time slot open for special productions, perhaps workshops or classes, or just focusing on in-house renovations. It will be some breathing space where we can experiment with smaller projects. Stay tuned!
So, starting with the September New Year, we will be pouring our extraordinary artistry into the productions of Dracula, Clybourne Park, Italian-American Reconciliation, Fun Home, and The Play That Goes Wrong, and welcoming all who are new and curious, or loyal and dedicated. We have 99 good seats and there is one for you!
